ZATCA E-INVOICING IN SAUDI ARABIA
The Zakat, Tax, and Customs Authority (ZATCA) announced the adoption of e-invoicing legislation on December 4, 2021. Organizations may use e-invoicing to save money while also increasing efficiency. They can save time by automating laborious manual activities and may focus on control, business strategy, and increased collaboration with clients and suppliers.
WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW?
It will be implemented in two steps: the first will begin on December 4, 2021, and the second will start on January 1, 2023.
All taxpayers subject to VAT (excluding those who are not residents of the Kingdom) as well as any party that issues a tax invoice on behalf of a taxpayer subject to VAT are covered by the legislation.
Invoicing and recording debit and credit notes, in particular: an electronic invoice is generated and stored in data files. Paper, unstructured data files, Word, Excel spreadsheets, PDF documents/images, or scanned copies of images are not regarded as e-invoices.
THE ZATCA E-INVOICE PROCESS
Whether you’re a buyer or a vendor, there are elements of the e-invoicing procedure that you must be prepared for once the mandate is established. ZATCA divides the process into two phases.
(1.) Generation: Generate and issue invoices in the ZATCA defined format electronically.)
(2.) ZATCA: submit the invoices to ZATCA.
